The Nokia 225 Flash File Miracle Box was cracked without the need to crack any software, patches, or apps. It was able to be cracked by using a combination of an unlikely device and so-called "brute force attacks". Here's what happened. A security researcher registered with us for a demo at MOSEC 2018 in China, so we sent him the Nokia 225 to carry around during his experience. The device has no security measures on it that can be tripped by hackers. Instead of picking up our phone, though, he took out his laptop and began browsing through its memory just like you would do when you'd dig into your own computer's RAM memory storage space. He found a file that had the name "Nokia" in it. He opened it on his computer and began to edit some of its settings. After putting them into place, he went on to the source code, which was written in HTML and JavaScript. Inside of this file were some modified ROM settings for the phone itself. But not only had our researcher changed some settings, he had also hacked into some software that ran directly on the phone's operating system—this software is called a bootloader. He did everything he could to get his computer and phone to communicate. But the only thing that changed was the file's name on the Nokia 225, which was now called "Nokia 2.1.1." He had renamed this file before and after hacking into it at MOSEC 2018. After this, he just opened another program called Flash File Miracle Box and uploaded these hacked settings before unplugging his device from the charger and letting it sit for a few minutes while we did some more research into it. We discovered that we can use our laptop’s web browser to access the phone using its IP address number via Wi-Fi if we plug in an Ethernet cable, which is not all that difficult. After trying to hack the device, we were able to open the browser on the phone and see the IP address number. Then, after connecting our laptop to it via Ethernet cable, we were able to see what was on the file that he had hacked into—but this was not easy at all. To solve this problem, other security researchers are working on a new tool that will allow others to access ROMs using wireless connections instead of relying solely on Ethernet cables. The Flash File Miracle Box has already been designed for use in hacking devices like these, but it is still in development. Even without this new tool, however, the Flash File Miracle Box does not require people to have access to a device with a jailbroken operating system, which is what it had been designed for. We also published a video of the hacking process. In addition to hacking one's device's own ROM settings, it is possible to hack into other people's phones and alter them as well. When we tried it on our demo phone in China, we were able to alter photos that had been added into the gallery on the device. This means that some photos that had been added into a gallery on another person's phone can be altered or removed from it afterward. cfa1e77820
